KitchenAid was started back in 1919 by The Hobart Corporation to create stand mixers. In 1914, an engineer working at Hobart, named Herbert Johnston, created the stand mixer after being inspired by a baker mixing dough. Johnston thought there had to be a better way of doing it, and he was right. Soon, the iconic mixer was created, but for a much different audience than you’d think. The first Hobart stand mixers were used on U.S. Navy ships as standard kitchen equipment. It wasn’t until 1922 that home models were developed based on these mixers.
