March is a transitional month, with winter heading out the door and spring taking the stage. It’s also a great time to save big in many categories. Below, I’ve rounded up my favorites so you can start planning ahead. Shop for any of these categories and you’ll earn Cash Back while using Rakuten.

Chocolate sales dip after Valentine’s Day, so look out for deals on your favorite sweet treats from chocolatiers and grocery stores. The lull between Valentine’s Day and Easter is a great time for sweet tooths all around.
Winter Sporting Goods
The winter sports season is fairly short, and in March stores start clearing out last year’s inventory to make room for next season’s items. Summer Items
I just talked about stores making room for spring products, but March is also a great time to score a deal on things like barbecues and outdoor living items. Jewelry sales slump a bit after Valentine’s Day, so stores are anxious to make a sale. You can expect some healthy discounts on jewelry during March, so now might be a good time to buy that new statement piece you’ve been eyeing.
Fitness Equipment
There’s a huge push at the beginning of each year to get fit and healthy, but by March many people have abandoned their New Year’s resolutions and suddenly that treadmill, bike or elliptical is looking less inviting and more like a burden. Fitness equipment has been hard to come by in the pandemic, even on the secondary market, but you can expect to find a decent amount of it becoming available in March.

Tax software was covered in the post on the best things to buy in February, and March continues to be a great time to buy. TurboTax, H&R Block and e-File are all offering big savings on tax-filing software and services. This year, many services are also offering live consultations with tax experts. I took advantage of this through TurboTax, and I was very happy with the overall experience. A tax advisor joins you via video chat to answer your questions—you can see them, but they can’t see you. Using screen-share, the advisor guides you through your return and advises you on how to make the most of your filing.
