6 Seasonal Ingredients to Make the Tastiest Healthy Treats Ever
Pick up your fruits when they’re in season and you’ll get the best flavor, nutrition and prices. Additionally, you can support your local farmers when you buy in season. We’re in a sweet spot at the end of summer and beginning of fall, so the variety is even better than usual. I love absolutely anything pumpkin and have been known to go a bit overboard with baking during this time of year.
Dark Chocolate-Covered Kiwi Pops
These couldn’t be simpler, or more delectable. Kiwi’s flavor isn’t lost when frozen, the way some fruits are.
Vegan Lemon Curd
Sure, this curd could be used in a pie, but I prefer to cut out the middleman and spoon it directly from a jar. It’s full of lots of healthy fats, too.
Baked Apples with Oatmeal and Yogurt
An almost apple pie just became a delicious breakfast. No need to feel any guilt with these.
Frozen Persimmon Custard
There are some fruits that this works with — I’d recommend this method with papaya as well. Something about its frozen flesh matches a creamy, custardy dessert. My favorite way to eat this is to sprinkle it with some lemon first.
Healthy Pumpkin Bars
How can we not include pumpkin during our favorite time of year? This vegetable is packed full of vitamins which you can pass off as a cake. Winning!
Chocolate Pomegranate Bark
Pomegranate pops in this very simple chocolate bark. Use dark chocolate for ALL the antioxidants.
Baked goods are my favorite kind of treat, but showcasing a ripe, raw fruit is a luxurious way to enjoy dessert or snack. What is your favorite time of year for fruits and veggies?
