Hamilton Beach was founded in 1910 by L.H. Hamilton and Chester Beach. Both men worked for U.S. Standard Electrical Works in Racine, Wisconsin where they began to develop a lightweight and universal motor designed specifically for use in home appliances. At that time, electric motors were used only in commercial appliances, so this was an innovation that changed home kitchens drastically and immediately. Hamilton Beach formed and quickly expanded its product line to include food mixers, drink mixers, juice extractors, meat grinders and other household items such as floor polishers and fans. Through the years, Hamilton Beach acquired other innovative companies such as Proctor Silex, which was responsible for creating the first iron with an attached cord, a pop-up toaster and an electric glass coffee maker. Today, Hamilton Beach brands sell over 34 million appliances each year and are continually expanding to new markets around the world.
