Mount Mary Vineyards Chardonnay is defined by its finesse and purity. The nose shows some preserved lemon, pear, white peach, cashew nuts and subtle toasty oak complexities. The palate is only medium bodied, but exhibits exceptional length of flavor and persistence. There are primary fruit flavors of pear, melon and grapefruit paired with savory spice undertones, nuts and buttered toast. Multiple clones, hand-picked, crushed and destemmed, fermented French oak (30% new), matured for 11 months. Pale straw-green; extremely focused and wrapped in a skein of citrussy acidity, the palate of extreme length, its future guaranteed by its screwcap. Just when you think the Mount Mary wines can't get any better (at the point of release), they do. A very intense chardonnay with aromas of yellow grapefruit, flint, white peach, lemon and wet stone, as well as a lightly spicy oak edge. The palate has such supple and lithe texture and really elegant, bright and crisp peaches and lemons abound. Limpid yellow-gold. Fresh pear, white peach and lemon curd scents are complemented by suggestions of jasmine and toasty lees. Fleshy and energetic in the mouth, offering mineral-laced Meyer lemon and Anjou pear flavors and a jolt of candied ginger. Finishes with gentle grip, a repeating floral note and superb, mineral- and floral-tinged persistence.
